Rice Yellow Glaze Intertwined Lotus Pattern Ru Kiln Cup | A Daily Tea Vessel That Becomes Quieter with Every Use
I recently changed to a new set of teacups, and this one is the only one I like more with every use. It's an Intertwined Lotus Pattern Rice Yellow Ru Kiln Teacup—simply put, a Ru kiln cup with a rice yellow glaze and intertwined lotus pattern. My first impression on holding it: smooth. The glaze is a very soft rice yellow, not a bright white; it resembles the warm glow of old porcelain shards, and in sunlight it has a subtle creamy-jade feel.
Around the body is a band of intertwined lotus pattern. The lines are neither too dense nor too sparse, and when you run your fingers over them, you can barely feel any relief—as if the pattern grew naturally inside the glaze. The outer wall's lines are restrained, and the inner wall is clean and smooth, making it very pleasant to wash. The capacity is exactly one small bowl of tea, the rim fits comfortably in the hand, and the wall thickness is just right—ideal as an everyday host cup.
Those who love Ru kiln ware know that this glaze gradually develops crackle lines with use—the legendary “raising a cup.” Every crackle becomes a personal mark, and over time the cup grows warmer and smoother. But I don't deliberately try to raise it; I just casually drink tea and let time leave its own traces.
Whether paired with rock oolong, ripe pu-erh, or aged white tea, it holds the warmth of the tea liquor well. Put it on an office desk or in a corner of the tea setup, and it looks great with a wooden table and a rough linen mat. If you're not drinking tea, it's also a pleasant decorative object to admire.
The beauty of this cup is not that it stuns at first glance, but that it feels quieter the more you use it. If you're a tea lover looking for a small cup that is pleasant for daily use and lets you appreciate how an object changes over time, this is worth considering. It can really make every drink feel a little slower.
